About Me

“Living life to the fullest”….yep that is my slogan! But I didn’t always feel this way family.  While the picture looks inviting, calm and confident….the orAKAle wasn’t always exemplifying these traits.  I am a firm believer that God purpose for us is to follow his word and enjoy life.  But as you all probably can relate, its not always that easy.

I had a pretty good life growing up. Traditionally privately schooled (elementary all the way through college actually) with Christian values entrenched in all that my parents taught me.  I was raised to go to church regular/consistency and up until senior year in high school I did just that.  Was highly involved in activities, community outreach and the arts all the way through college….. but as I got older I found the road to maturing and becoming adult was more difficult than I imagine.

Still struggling with this whole concept of “finding and growing into me” I ending college on a good note.  I was awarded a Bachelors Degree in Special and Elementary Education, and from there was ready to enter the workforce as an excited and newly trained teacher!  I worked for the Special School District in my area for a few months and I must admit I did enjoy what I was doing.  Students liked me, I got along with the other teachers and I was placed in a performing and safe district, but felt destined for something bigger…..greater…but couldn’t put words to it actually.

Thinking that life was suppose to be so much simpler upon graduating with my degree, along with having the “dream job” that I wanted since starting my undergraduate work, family and mentors in my life pushed me to return to school yet again to obtain an advance degree and to further my experience.  A few months later, after speaking with mentors and of course consulting family members, I received an opportunity for an assistantship/scholarship to enroll in a Masters Degree program for FREE!!!  Yes….don’t we like the word free family…..I sure do!

Three years later, after many trials and tribulations, I finished my thesis and was awarded with the distinguished Masters Degree in Higher Education.  From there, I took my tour of the state of Missouri working at multiple institutions of Higher Education and serving in multiple diversity and student focused roles.  When I thought that life had given me more than I imagined, I was blessed with an opportunity to move to the east coast; where I currently reside.  After transitioning, I thought that even here, the life I dreamed about would start…immediately…lol….it is after all this I realized that I HAD THE CONTROL in determining how I would live my life.

Development of Silky Chronicles:

I would have never thought that I would actually make an effort to create and post on this whole “blog” thing over the last few years.  I remember when I first heard of the concept of blogging, and for the life of me, could not understand the purpose or why people had so much time to sit at a computer and do this sort of “stuff”.  If only I knew then how therapeutic blogging would be AND how much I could inspire others in the process.

Originally Silky Chronicles (AKA “SC”) was going to focus on me and my journey to becoming healthier AND transitioning out of wearing chemicals in my hair…but it has grown to be so much bigger than that.  Like I mentioned before, I believe that we should be taking every day for what it is and living each and every one to the fullest. Tomorrow is never promised, and taking full advantage of the opportunities, blessing, etc that have been afforded you TODAY should be a priority.  My hope is to provide just that on this here blog!

I charge all my followers, surfers, etc to take a look and are welcome to participate.  I feel part of my vocation in life is to share my experiences (good and bad) and also help to spotlight the great works of others.  If I did not do this, honestly, I feel I would be falling short of the purpose and will that God has set forth for me to achieve.  Every day is a new day an opportunity to strive to be greater than before. I hope that with reading ad subscribing to the SC you will be revived, refreshed and begin LIVING LIFE TO THE FULLEST!

Be blessed

I’m really loving the theme/design of your blog. Do you ever run into any browser compatibility problems? A small number of my blog audience have complained about my site not operating correctly in Explorer but looks great in Safari. Do you have any ideas to help fix this problem?
